Dave NK0E and I with my goats Rooster and Peanut carrying our water and gear spent Friday night on Mt Herman at our favorite hangout! Saturday AM after watching a great sunrise we got up the antennas, set our radios (FT817 and Elecraft K1) and started to prowl the bands. Video tells the story better than I.

A video log of our adventure hiking on Mt Herman. My goats Rooster & Peanut dance on the rocks while the 'old goat' works 20m SSB. FT-817 and Buddistick made it all the way to Fairbanks! Not bad for the bottom of the solar cycle.

Day 3 was bitter sweet as we hiked out to the trail head after 3-days camping. But hamming on the mesa was the pinnacle of our adventure! Guy/N7UN's K1 & 40m sloper yield many QSOs as did my Ft817 and Buddistick. The DX was the real surprise!!

On top of Mt Herman, Colorado with my FT817 (5w) and home made Buddistick I made contact with Bob W3BBO in Erie, PA. on 20m during 'poor' band conditions. He was using his recently built 20m SST (1.5w) to R5 vertical. Just proves it doesn't take a KW (or even a 100w) to get through with CW at the bottom of the solar cycle.
