I actually let it drain and then run a new quart of oil through after the dirty oil drains out to push out the last of the dirty oil. I think that gives you the freshest start for your new oil.

It isn't that easy on that engine, I personally use plastic cam gear holders to hold them in place once the are lined up. Otherwise they may slip and be off. And if you have put it together lined up incorrectly, the engine may be internally damaged now by the pistons hitting valves as the engine was cranked over. Scotty Kilmer

Your engine does not have a timing belt, it has a timing chain. and if it broke, your engine probably has a ton of internal damaged. Replacing the chain itself is an involved job, but I would check the engine first, as it's probably damaged and just changing the chain would be a waste of time if so. Scotty Kilmer

Yeah some stuff is pretty inferior in quality. I have had pretty good luck with mine now reaching to the 1/4 million mile mark.
As any motor the 6G72 just requires maintenance. Many owners destoryed engines by changing the oil pumps for no reason other than some 15 year old kid on a 3000GT forum telling them to do it. My mechanic of 35 years experience warns against fixing things that are not broken. Read up on repalcement oil pump failure and you will find many cases.

I pay my mechanic about $450 in labor to not have to mess with it. The tensioner can be reset with a vice though. Anyway, just the shortblock runs about 3 grand on them and to rebuild heads is $500+ each so I prefer not to mess with it.
I've had my 3KGT since 2002 and just hit the 240K miles mark..still runs strong. I hate the valve guide seals in these cars though..they have to be replaced every 120K miles even running full synthetic oil changed religiously.

I have owned 4 mustangs from 98 GT to 2001 GT... Just few bolt on such as BBK throttle/cond air, 60K volts coils, pully, X-pipe w cats and straight mufflers, 4.10 gears... and sct 93 octane tune will be well over 300 hp mark my friend... Do ur homework...

My god at the sound. What bolt on's does this have? 290whp is very good. I'd like to know a ballpark figure on my GT's power. The only mods I have lacking in the bolt ons are UDP,throttle body and upper plenum. My mods are on my videos. and that is one of the best sounding GT's I have ever heard.
